What these terms mean
- Giclée print
- A giclée print is a print made with pigment-based inks rather than dyes, laid down by a large-format printer at high resolution. Pigment inks sit in the paper instead of soaking through it and are rated for well over a century of colourfastness, which is the difference between a fine art print and a poster-shop print that fades visibly in years.
- Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm
- Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm is a 100% cotton rag paper from a German mill that has made paper since 1584. It is matte, heavy and slightly textured, which lets dark tones sit flat and quiet rather than turning the surface into a mirror — the reason it suits city-at-dusk images, which live or die on their shadows.
- Made to order
- A made-to-order print is produced individually once it is ordered — printed, proofed and shipped as a one-off run rather than pulled from warehouse stock. Every print in this collection is made this way and checked against the current printer profile before it ships. They are open prints, not numbered limited editions.
- CASA accreditation
- CASA accreditation is the credential the Civil Aviation Safety Authority requires before a drone can be flown commercially in Australia. Every print and commission here is flown under CASA’s standard operating conditions: a maximum of 120 metres above ground level, 30 metres clear of people not involved in the operation, within visual line of sight, and in daylight.
Common questions
Where can I buy aerial prints of Melbourne?
Directly from this site. aerial.melbourne sells 5 fine art aerial prints of Melbourne and Victoria, shot by drone and sold by the photographer rather than through a gallery or a print-on-demand marketplace. Browse the full collection, choose a size from A4 up to A0, and order online.
What is sold here?
Two things. Fine art aerial prints of Melbourne and Victoria, made to order on archival cotton rag paper — that is the print collection. And commissioned aerial photography and video for real estate, construction and corporate clients across Melbourne and Victoria, quoted per job.
Where do the prints ship from, and what does shipping cost?
Prints are produced and dispatched from Melbourne. Shipping within Australia is free and tracked. Allow 5 to 7 business days for printing and quality control, then 2 to 4 business days to metropolitan areas and up to 7 to regional and remote areas. Orders currently ship within Australia only — see the shipping policy.
What is the difference between buying a print and commissioning a shoot?
A print is an existing image from the collection, made to order in the size you choose and shipped to you. A commission is a new shoot to your brief — your building, site or property — quoted on location, scope and usage. Same pilot and same equipment behind both. Commission details are here.
How do I get in touch?
Email josh@aerialmelbourneprints.com with what you need. For a commission, include the location, whether you want stills or video, and your timeline; you get a reply within one business day with availability and a quote. For prints, send a photo of the wall and its measurements and you get an honest size recommendation.
