Flight Check — Melbourne Drone Flight Forecast

What Flight Check does

Flight Check is a free, real-time drone flight condition checker for Melbourne, built and used by the pilot behind aerial.melbourne. It answers one question — can I fly right now? — with a clear GOOD TO FLY, CAUTION, or NO FLY verdict.

How the verdict works

  • Wind speed — NO FLY above 30 km/h by default, CAUTION as it approaches the limit. Thresholds are adjustable for your aircraft.
  • Wind gusts — flagged separately from sustained wind, NO FLY above 45 km/h by default, with a steadiness rating comparing gusts to base wind.
  • Rain — current and forecast precipitation, since consumer drones aren't weather-sealed.
  • KP index — geomagnetic activity from NOAA space-weather data; KP 5+ can degrade GPS accuracy and triggers a CAUTION.

Beyond the verdict, it shows a 7-day hourly forecast, sunrise/sunset and golden hour times for planning shoots, and an estimated battery-performance figure that accounts for cold temperatures and wind load. Weather data comes from Open-Meteo; space-weather data from NOAA. It's installable as an app (PWA) on your phone's home screen and pairs with the Drone Bot Telegram alerts for 24/7 condition monitoring. Free to use, no sign-up.
